Joseph was a family man; he married two times and fathered seven children. When he was about 20 years old, he met and married his first wife, Hannah Bracken, in Caswell Co. NC They had two children, John B. Murphey, born in 1795 and Martha Ector Murphey, born in 1797. Hannah died in 1797, probably from childbirth complications.
Joseph Murphey was still alive on August 3rd 1835 when he sold 100 acres to hid son-in-law Calvin Cope, he was dead by the end of August 1835 when a suit was brought against him in White Co., TN by Margaret Officer in a disagreement over Joseph's land in Overton County. We, his descendants believe that he was buried somewhere on his land near his homeplace.
