Mr. Donald "Don" Frances Bretz, age 82, of San Augustine, passed from this life in San Augustine early Wednesday morning, July 2, 2014 after a lengthy illness. He was born February 17, 1932, to Alma (Brenton) Bretz and Ben Alden in Osceola, Iowa. He grew up in various cities in Oklahoma, while most of his career was worked in the oil fields of New Mexico and West Texas. Upon retirement from Sweatt Construction in Artesia, New Mexico, he moved to San Augustine. Don loved the outdoors especially working with his tractor and log splitter. He was well known for his talent in making jerky. Don married Edlina (Lina) in 2002.He is survived by his wife, Edlina (Lina) Bretz; Brother-in-law, Garland Wood; His children, Ronnie Bretz, Randy Bretz, Donnie Bretz, Scott and Ruby Page, Suzy Inmon, Reed and Sherri Bretz, James and Vivian Smith, Heath and Tammy Hebert, Tina and Tavis Motley, Angel and Kyle Northcut, Bobbie and John Ledger. Grandchildren, Samantha and Kelby Page, Crystal and Austin Inmon, and Stephanie Bretz. Many more grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents; Ben and Alma Bretz, and Brothers, Richard Bretz, Billy Jack Bretz, Sisters, Juanita Bretz Daniels, Joyce Bretz Wood and Joan Bretz. The family has chosen cremation and Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014 in the Calvary Baptist Church, in San Augustine with Bro. Doug Fincher officiating.
