Vickers Wellington III (#BJ724) KO-P aircraft of 115 Squadron took flight from RAF Marham at 2014 hours on an operation over Duisburg in Germany. Sudden ignition of the photo-flash, used for night photography, resulted in an explosion on board the aircraft; the explosion caused the Wellington to crash at Blofield, about 6 miles east of Norwich. Four of the aircrew lost their lives as a result of the crash; three perished in the crash and although the pilot, Flight Segeant Lanceley, survived the crash he died from his severe injuries within 48 hours.
