Max E. Johnson, 83, passed away at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at his home. He was born March 5, 1920 in Lawrence County to Robert and Nettie (Dinkel) Johnson. Max lived in the Lawrence County community his entire life. He was a farmer and retired from the Carnation Milk Company where he worked on the receiving dock. Max was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II and a member of the Wallace Dale Bolin VFW Post #4541. He was a member of the Summit Baptist Church. On October 2, 1943, he married Esther Hagemeier in Mount Vernon. She survives. Additional survivors include one daughter, Maxine Tennison and husband David, Mount Vernon; one granddaughter, Lorrie Tennison, Mount Vernon; one grandson, Mark Tennison and wife Melinda, DeMotte, Indiana; one great-granddaughter, Madison Tennison; two brothers, Rama Johnson, Mount Vernon, and Jake Johnson, Monett; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, two sisters and three brothers, preceded him in death. Services under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 24, at the Summit Baptist Church, Mount Vernon, with Rev. Brent McCune officiating. Burial will be at the Mount Vernon I.O.O.F. Cemetery. CM2 US NAVY
