115 Squadron’s Vickers Wellington (#Z8863) bomber aircraft, with an aircrew of six and also including three members of the ground aircrew (on the flight for flight experience), took off from RAF Marham on a non-operational flying test. Flying at a low altitude, Z8863 crashed 2 miles NW of March after colliding with railway cars on the March-Spalding rail line. All the airmen aboard the Wellington lost their lives in this accident.
