115 Squadron's Vickers Wellington Mk IC (#R1470) aircraft, with an aircrew of six, took flight from RAF Marham on an air operation targeting German warships in the harbour at Brest, France. On its return the Wellington was shot down by a German intruder aircraft and crashed on the marshland at Ongar, Terrington St. Clement, 5 miles from King's Lynn, taking the lives of five crew members.
