She was married to Samuel Cotner in 1952. Marlene and Sam raised five children: Stephen Cotner and wife Karen of Vincennes, IN, Patrick Cotner of Pueblo, Colorado, John Cotner and wife Paula of Bloomington, IN, Rebecca Williams and husband Michael of Indianapolis, IN and Karen Cotner who preceded her in death. Grandchildren: Jennifer Owens and husband Ellis and Matthew Cotner of Fishers, IN; Bart Cotner and wife Ashley of Bloomington; Hannah Webster and husband Jason of Farmersburg, IN; Allison Hayward and husband Kyle of Orlando, FL; Mandi Williams and Megan Ryle and husband Frankie of Indianapolis, IN.
Also surviving is her brother Jerald Meidel of Locust Grove, Virginia, and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and daughter who pre-deceased her, brother George Meidel preceded her in death as well.
Marlene graduated from Feitshans High School in 1949, a delegate of the National Honor Society. She was an active member of the "Mayflower Club" within the Monroe County Extension Homemaker's Club and 4-H Leader. Marlene's faith and passion for prayer provided silent strength throughout her adult life, family and friends reaping the benefits of this faith. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, and was widely known for her special fondness of all children.
