S 2 US Coast Guard World War II

Daughter of Frank Wm. Midgett, Sr. & Bernice Ione Saunders. Wife of Guiseppe Anthony "Joe" Rubolotta (ma. June 26, 1946).

MIDGETT WHO JOINED SPARS IS LAID TO REST IN MANTEO -- Military honors accompanied the burial in Manteo Friday of the first woman of the Outer Banks' famous Midgett family to join the female unit of the Coast Guard. Freda Midgett Rubolotta died last week after a short illness.

Mrs. Rubolotta joined the Spars as a young woman and served during the years of WWII, according to her sister, Loretta Case of Brown's Summit. Mrs. Rulolotta was a neice of the late Capt. John Allen Midgett, one of the famous Chicamacomico Midgetts who served the Coast Guard and assisted in daring rescues.

She was the daughter and granddaughter of Coast Guardsmen, and with this inspiration it was natural that she would serve as her forbears had. The daughter of Bernice and Frank Midgett, her father died in 1942, but her mother is still living.

One of a family of eight children, Mrs. Rubolotta was the mother of two sons and three daughters and was a resident of Arizona at the time of her death. She was sworn into the Spars by Lt. Truxton Midgett when she was 20 years old, just two years after that unit was formed.

Mrs. Rulolotta was a special friend to her friends, and one friend wrote in a tribute to her, that she was loyal in good times and bad, always a help and encourager and someone who would listen. Even when Mrs. Rulolotta was dying, the friend said, she would call and say she was getting along well.
