Revolutionary War soldier.
Thought to be one of more than 100 unmarked graves in the Allen-Carper Cemetery, if he died in Botetourt County, Virginia, as some say. Others say he may have gone to Tennessee with his son Malcolm Allen "Jr."

He was the son of Malcolm Allen and his wife Mary, whose graves were pointed out in the 1950s along with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

According to several family trees, his mother was Mary Margaret Cunningham, daughter of James and Margaret "Mattie" Cunningham; granddaughter of Alexander Cunningham; great-granddaughter of David and Rachel Bruce Cunningham. Other descendants show her as Mary Hughes.

Hugh Allen's wife Ann Hunter is said to have died in 1825 in Davidson County, Tennessee.
Some researchers appear to have confused her with Anne Pembroke Hunter who married Robert Cartright and died Feb. 1825 in Sumner Co., Tenn. Robert Cartright died 1809 in Goodlettsville, Tennessee.

In the 1950s Emily Honts, a descendant, visited this cemetery with Nettie Carper Deisher (1873-1967), a great-great-granddaughter of Malcolm Allen, "and she pointed out where he was buried along with his wife Mary."
She showed Mrs. Honts the graves of her grandparents, great-grandparents, and great-great-grandparents, all buried here.
