MEMORIAL HEADSTONE: Private in Company G, organized 1861 at Camp Anderson (near Pikesville/Flippin, KY), 9th KY Volunteer Infantry Regiment (US). Killed in action during the Civil War battle of Missionary Ridge, Chattanooga, TN. Believed buried among the unidentified Union dead at Chattanooga National Cemetery. Son of Elzia & Elizabeth Douglass Arterburn, and brother of Thomas E. Arterburn.

ELIJAH's first cousin, PVT Elijah Arterburn (Memorial 204977739), of the 2nd Missouri Infantry Regiment (CS), was KIA during the Siege of Vicksburg, May 22, 1863. His father, Elias Arterburn, served in the 6th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry (US) until medically discharged in 1863.
