Inez Marie Funk, 91, of Linton, Indiana went to a better place after a long illness at 7:18 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015 in Regional Hospital, Terre Haute, Ind.
She was born December 19, 1923 in Sullivan County, Ind. to Ralph McBride and Hattie (Williams) McBride.
Survivors included her husband of 69 years, Herman Funk of Linton, Ind. whom she married on June 14, 1945; daughter, Barbara Irish of Linton, Ind.; grandson and wife, Daniel and Leanna Truitt of Avon, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Ireland Truitt and Finley Truitt of Avon, Ind.; brother, Charles Ray McBride of Jasonville, Ind.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Richard Stevenson of Jasonville, Ind., Ruth and Coen Whitlock of Terre Haute, Ind.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Werblo of Houston, Texas; nephew and wife, Terry and Vicki Funk who was a former business partner, of Amarillo, Texas; many other nieces an nephews; an her loving dog Holly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and spouses, John McBride, William and Shirley McBride, James and Helen McBride, Ralph Jr. and Madeline McBride; sisters, Eunice McBride, Bonnie McBride; brother-in-law, Dory Funk, SR.
After graduating from Jasonville High School she became a telephone operator. She then moved to Hammond, Ind. to help with the World War II effort and became a crane operator at Continental Roll in East Chicago where she helped build Sherman Tanks. The end of World War II forced her to change employment. She became the head cashier at a department store where she roamed the store and because she liked to sew, would also accept simple shoe repair jobs. She met her husband, Herman Funk there. Together they built, owned an operated an R.V. Park in Hammond. After Herman became a policeman, she was the President of the Heart Fund, was an officer in the Eastern Stars and a member of the F.O.P. Auxiliary. In 1968 she and Herman moved to Amarillo, Texas where he was the President of Sports Unlimited, an international company with offices in the Southwest and Japan. There, she worked in the office. In 1978 they returned to Indiana to be near their daughter, Barbara. She became a farmer's wife, raising cattle. She enjoyed life and along with her many jobs she liked reading, fishing, playing cards and cookouts with family and friends. She raised a daughter and helped raise a grandson and said, "Who could ask for more?".
Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. service time Sunday at the Funeral Home. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the Cox Funeral Home with her nephew, Reverend Terry Joe Whitlock officiating.
Interment will be at Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, IN.
