Roy "Pat" Kennedy

Roy "Pat" Kennedy, 85, of Chesapeake, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 15, 2015 after a short illness.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Nellie Kennedy; his wife, Betty Jean (Bland) Kennedy; his brothers, Charles, Donald, Paul and Ray; and sister, Pansy (Kennedy) Burdette.

He is survived by his sister, Betty (Kennedy) Jewell of Spartansburg, Pa.; a very special friend, Margaret Johnson; and many nieces and nephews and many great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews.

He attended Chesapeake United Methodist Church and Lens Creek Wesleyan Church. Pat served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was the warehouse manager for Dotson Steel and tire salesman for Appalachian Tire. He was a proud member of the VFW and Moose Lodge, and also served as a councilman for the city of Chesapeake.

Pat never met a stranger and was a helping hand to anyone who was in need. He stayed busy working with his hands in his yard, decorating for the holidays or out planting flowers, working in the garden or tinkering in his garage. Pat will be greatly missed by all who knew him or even knew of him. Pat had made it known that his goal every day in life was to make at least one person smile, and in his last hours he was still making people smile.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at Hafer Funeral Home with Pastors David Biondi and Roger Gogas officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 61, Clendenin.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the funeral home.

Online condolences may be made at www.haferfuneralhome.net.
