Edgar was born in the vanished community of Haunted Hill, Texas, west of Moody, Texas, the son of the late John Calvert and Eva Viola (Tilley) Perryman. He was a 1919 graduate of Moody High School. On Nov. 24, 1921, he married Eunice May Alton in Moody.
He later received a teaching certificate from North Texas State University in Denton. Mr. Perryman taught in one-room schools in Moody, Witson, Eagle Springs, Tilley, and Ewing for about four years. He was employed by the U.S. Post Office as a carrier in Austin for about six years. He also farmed with his son in the Moody area and was a field supervisor for Texas A&M Extension Service from 1947 until his 1964 retirement. In 1948 he moved to McGregor from Moody.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of McGregor, where he was a member of the Friendship Class. He was also a former teacher of the Try Class, served on the administrative board, and was an usher in earlier years.
After 81 years of marriage, he was preceded in death by his wife, on May 17, 2003; a son, James Weldon Perryman; grandson, Jeffrey Perryman; great-grandson, Justin Lee Schmidt; great-granddaughter, Katy Kitchens; and sister, Florence Perryman.
Survivors include his sons, Doran Perryman and his wife, Martha, of Moody and Earl Perryman and his wife, Barbara, of Speegleville; daughter, Betty Seawright and her husband, Jack, of Moody; grandchildren, Mike Perryman and his wife, Rita, Pat Kitchens and her husband, Paul, John Perryman and his wife, Brenda, Mary Brooks and her husband, Chris, Paul Perryman and his wife, Sandra, Sharon Schmidt and her husband, Gary, and Scott Seawright; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
