Peter retired from Firestone Tire Rubber Co. in 1982 with over 40 years service. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and Korea. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and its usher club and the Sons of Herman. Peter was active in softball for 35 years and was an avid golfer. Pete was known for his great sense of humor. Peter and Jennie were snowbirds spending their winters in North Fort Myers, Fla. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Peter is survived by sons, Richard (Connie), Bernard, Gerard (Ann), John (Cindy) and Michael (Heather); grandchildren, Renee (Jeremy), Aaron, Seth (Sara), Kristin, Kelly (Jason) and Traci (Jason), Michael; great grandchildren, Maggie, Elle, Lydia, Johanna, Jaidyn, Clara, Karys, Judah, Eleanor, Josiah, Selah and Evelyn; sisters-in-law, Betty Bisheimer and Mary Kalaman; and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
He was preceded in death by wife, Jennie; brothers, Joseph, John, Alex, Fr. Nick; sisters, Sr. Imelda, Sr. Pierre, Marie Bisheimer and Rose Lecon.
The family wishes to acknowledge and extend a very heartfelt thank you to all the "guardian angels" at St. Luke Lutheran Community who made Dad's stay as comfortable as possible. Their shared good humor exchanges and the selfless care they extended to Dad were a Godsend. God Bless You.
The family will receive friends Monday, 5 to 8 p.m. at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., Akron. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery where military services will be held.
