Robert Eugene Swanson of the rural Haskell, OK area died on January 3, 2015 at the age of 71. Robert was born on July 1, 1943 in rural western Muskogee County to George W. Swanson, Jr. and Faye G. (Maddox) Swanson. Robert attended Haskell Public School and graduated from Haskell High School in 1961. Robert attended and graduated from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah in 1964 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Spanish. Robert began his teaching career at Ketchum High School and taught several years before retiring early to the rural Midway Community, southwest of Haskell. Robert was an avid reader. He loved talking about current events, politics and debating issues. He was very intelligent and had a dry, witty sense of humor. Robert was a major sports fan, loved watching football and basketball and enjoyed following OU, the Dallas Cowboys and the Oklahoma City Thunder. He also loved going fishing. Robert was preceded in death by his father, George, Jr., and mother Faye, and brothers Don and Jim.
