The following takes place during Christmas, 1996. Hank Miiler gives an interview to M. Seldon, the Editor of Votre Famille Gazette.

When I was 12 years old I lived in Boyne City and my one and only gift
was from my father. This was a pair of wooden hickory skies. They were 8 feet long and had a strap to go over your boot. That was it––no bindings––no poles––just ski’s. We had hills to climb up, then we would ski down––then you would carry your ski’s back up, and go down again. I can remember that I would do this about seven times when I was 12 and then I was done for the day! This is how I learned to ski, and I still have my 8 foot long hickory ski’s.

I have been skiing 56 years ow and was on the Ski Patrol for 37 years. I have skied at Big Sky where my son John was General Manager, also at Deer Valley where he was Vice-President, also at Steamboat, where I knew no one.

The best thing i like about skiing is being out of doors and the stress release it gives me. I enjoy the people I meet and I owe all this to my father and my 8 foot long hickory ski’s.

Oh, one more thing. My father and my brother Eddy always went rabbit hunting just before Christmas and my father always got our
[Christmas} tree by shooting it down with his shotgun.
