Bette Lee Batman, 84, of Shenandoah, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg.

Arrangements are being handled by Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

Bette Lee Batman, 84, of Shenandoah passed away on December 28, 2014 at Sentera RMH in Harrisonburg.

She was born September 11, 1930 in Shanghai, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Earl and Grace Dehaven Hines. Her husband, Austin Elwood “Dave” Batman also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Batman graduated from Stephen City High School. She went on to continue her education at the Winchester Hospital School of Nursing and in 1969 received her License as a Practical Nurse from Waynesboro Community Hospital. Bette went on to practice nursing at Page Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Batman was an active member of Fields United Methodist Church. She was active in the Shenandoah bowling league and spent a lot of time playing ladies golf at Shenvalee. Bette enjoyed the Red Hat Society and the Shenandoah Women’s Club, both of which she was a member.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda B. West of Shenandoah; one son, Dave E. Batman of Shenandoah; two brothers, Earl Richard Hines and wife Jacqueline of Raleigh, NC, and Ray S. Hines and wife Samju of Christmas, FL.

A memorial service will be conducted at noon on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Fields United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Creech officiating. The family will receive friends from 11-12 pm prior to the service or anytime at the Batman home. Her body will be cremated at the Kyger Funeral Home and burial will be private.

Memorial donations can be made to the Shenandoah Rescue Squad, 544 4th Street or the Shenandoah Community Library, 418 South 3rd Street both in Shenandoah, Va. 22849.
