Edna Francine Elliot passed away at 11 months old early Saturday morning in a local hospital. It was said to be at St. Michael Hospital, but it could have been Wadley. I'm not sure.

According to my mother (Mary Ellen Jackson Bryan), Francine was a beautiful baby with very long black eyelashes, beautiful eyes, and beautiful hair.

My mother was about 10 years old when she was born. Sometimes my mother would have to take care of Francine while Francine's mother, Lillie Mae was at work, or out etc.... It was very stressful on my mother because she was so young, and the baby had a heart condition.

Francine finally passed away in St Michael Hospital on July 14, 1956. It might have been in Wadley Hospital? I'm not sure. She was buried in an unmarked grave, so my mother bought her a grave stone back in the 1970's.

She is survived by her older brother, Ardist "Arty" Doyle Elliot Jr.

Ardist is my mother's maternal first cousin. Mom grew up with him so he was more like a brother to her. They were both raised by their maternal grandmother, Allene or Alline "Allie" (McKamie) Martin Rogers. Alline was pronounced, "Allene."

Funeral services were held for Francine at 2 p.m. on Monday, July16, 1956, at the Texarkana Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Fred Deahl officiated. My mother went to Fred's church. He was a Baptist Minister, I think the church he pastored was called Bronway Heights Baptist Church on Demorise St.

There were many people who attended her funeral. Aunt Mary Brantley sent a spray of grey, and pink carnations. Collom, & Carney Clinic sent a potted plant. Glen, & May Likes (good friends of the family), William Thornton, and cousin Allene Harvin were there, among many others...

Survivors at the time of her death according to her obituary which was published in the (Texarkana Gazette on Monday, 16Jul1956) were her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Ardist Doyle Elliott Sr. of 106 Scott St., an older brother, Ardist Doyle Elliott, Jr., and her grand-parents, Mrs. Allie Rogers of Texarkana, AR., and Mr. & Mrs. A. A. Elliott of Terrell, Texas.

May God bless this family, and may little Francine rest in heavenly peace in the arms of angels . . . She will always be remembered...

My latest update on Francine's older brother Ardist is that on August 26, 2020, Ardist did not evacuate, but rode out the storm (Hurricane Laura - Category 4) in Lake Charles, LA. He survived. Ardist had been living in Lake Charles for many years after he left the Texarkana, AR. area. Later on after Hurricane Laura hit - he then moved up to Mississippi to live close to his son Marcus for awhile.

My latest update on Ardist is that he moved back down to Louisiana after living with his son Marcus for awhile in Gulf Port, Mississippi. Then in late Aug. early Sept. 2021 he rode out yet another storm (Hurricane Ida - Category 4) again in Louisiana. It was the second most damaging & intense hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. state of Lousiana on record, behind Hurrican Katrina in 2005. Ardist also rode out Hurricane Katrina in 2005. After Katrina blew over, Mom went down there, and got him, and brought him back up to Texarkana to stay for awhile with his foster family until things could become more livable back down there in Louisiana again.
