Florida Times-Union dated 29 Jan 2004:“J. Frank Smith, born December 31, 1923, passed away January 24, 2004. He was a Jacksonville native, raised on Forbes Street and attended Robert E. Lee High School where he was known as Smitty to his friends and football teammates. He retired from the City of Jacksonville Electric Department in 1968. Through his hard work and knowledge he became a Master Electrical Contractor and worked until his health would not allow it. He was a founding member of Peeler Memorial Methodist and later joined Spring Glen United Methodist where he was an active member and was the past President of the Florida Association of Square and Round Dancers. He was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin Franklin and Anna Dorothy Smith, and a brother Robert. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Frances Armstrong Smith; four sons, Bob (Cindy), Ben (Julie), Jim (Wanda), and John Smith; five grandchildren, Chris (Elizabeth), Rachel, Jessie Ruth, Bobby (Suzanne) and Brett; two great-granddaughters, Skylar and Sharon; one brother, Charles J. Smith; many nieces, nephews and relatives in Southwest Georgia. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Spring Glen United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jim Altman officiating. Graveside service will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
