Obituary for Edward Lindsey Edelen

Edelen Last Rites Held Here Monday
Edward Lindsey Edelen, long-time resident of Madill, died in Ardmore Sunday, following several months of ill health.
He was a cafe operator, grocer and filling station operator here for many years, until his health failed. He had served on the school board here for several years.
Mr. Edelen was born in Gordonville, Tex., September 29, 1879, and was married to Miss Rachel Burrows June 14, 1904.
Mrs. Edelen died in 1936 and he later was married to Arzula Dugan, who survives him.
For the past year and a half, Mr. Edelen has spent most of his time with his two sons, Orlen (sic. Orlan) who lives at Wilson and Eton of Clem-Scott.
Survivors include his wife and two sons, a brother Robert Edelen, Mead and a sister, Mollie Combest (sic. Cumbus), Valdesta, Tex., and three grandchildren.
The Rev. L.E. Green, pastor of the Nazarene Church, had charge of the funeral services in Watts Funeral Chapel here Monday afternoon. Charlie Whisman had charge of the music.
Burial was in the Woodberry Forest cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ed Long, Sam Moore, Ray Evans, T.M. Hammer, John Gilby, Wayne Sills, George Nail, Johnnie Fisher, Horace Harrison and Roy Bailey.

Note: Both the obituary and Watts Funeral Home show Rachel and Edward buried in Madill-Legion Cemetery (now Woodberry Forest), but when we got the City Records, there is no sign of them! Edward bought eight plots, but only three show people buried in them - Orlan, Ola Mae, and Klough. I believe that Rachel and Edward are in two of the other five plots, but we have not been able to prove it yet. (Luanne Sbarbaro)
