Wilbur Edward Robert "Willie" Hoogeveen, age 86 years of Abbey, SK. passed away May 16, 2012 at The Prairie Health Care Centre, Cabri, SK. The funeral service was held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from the Cabri Legion Community Hall, with Marie Barr officiating. The eulogist was Morgan Powell and the organist was Lexie Culham. The ushers were Bill and Doug Pederson and the active pallbearers were: Bradley Blackmore, Jay Blackmore, Dennis Elves, Max Pederson, Albert Braaten and Larry Stenerson. The honorary pallbearers were Marvin Cameron and Clarence Pederson. Willie is survived by his spouse Jane Hoogeveen (nee: Powell); stepchildren: Johanna (Duke) Sondrol, Marcia (Ed) Cunningham and Mick (Darlene) Bos; sisters: Grace Hadwen, Bab's Schindle, Norma (Jim) Price, Marg (Harold) Blackmore and Joy (Gary) Elves and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Anne Hoogeveen; spouse Wilhelmina Hoogeveen (nee: Dykshoorn - deceased 1996); stepson Bill Bos; brother Bert (Myra); sisters: Eelje (Len) Reid, Jeanne (Ben) Bennett, Evelyn (Don) Blackmore, Dolly and Steine; an infant brother Henry Ralph Hoogeveen; brothers-in-law Art Schindle and Harold Hadwen; neices: Doreen Morrey, Beverly Sorsdahl and a nephew Donald Reid. Willie was born February 14, 1926 on Sec. 20 - Twp. 21 - Rge 19 - W. 3rd Mer., Cabri district SK. and attended the Maple Dale school in the district. He was farmer and rancher all his life. Bill was an honorary member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ducks Unlimited, Saskatchewan Stock Growers Assoc. and the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation. His special interests were hunting, fishing, cooking beef and beans for brandings, weddings and other family gatherings. He enjoyed modifying equipment and machinery to suit his own unique needs. Memorial donations to the Cabri Hospital Auxiliary or to a charity of the donors choice, would be appreciated by the family.
