Funeral services for Sgt. William Thomas Rogers, 25, who was killed in an airplane crash near McGregor, Texas, Saturday afternoon, were held in Abbeville Wednesday at 3 p.m. His wife is the former Isabell Hebert of Abbeville..
Sgt. Rogers was killed when the small private airplane he was flying crashed about half a mile south of McGregor. Reports reaching here stated that the plane was flying about telephone pole height when it nosed into the ground. The sergeant was stationed at Waco, Texas.
The body arrived in Abbeville Wednesday morning. It remained at the First National Funeral Home in Abbeville until the hour of the services. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery in Abbeville.
Survivors include his widow, a daughter, Drucilla Marie, his mother, Mrs. Emma Rogers of Chattanooga, Tenn.; five sisters, Mrs. E.R. Abernathy of Tyler, Texas; Mrs. H.J. Peek and E.E. Vice of Gadsden, Ala.; Mrs. H.W. McDaniel of Richmond, Calif.; Mrs. J.L. Matt of Savannah, Ga.; five brothers, R.A. of Tyler, J.R. and G.J. of Buffalo, N.Y., Carl of Chattanooga and E.E. of the U.S. Navy stationed at Charlestown, Rhode Island.
