Funeral services were held Saturday morning for the Rev. Victor M. Smith, 86, at the First Family Church in Albuquerque with the Rev. Kenneth George and the Rev. Galen Woodward officiating.
The former pastor of the Santa Rosa Assembly of God died on Wednesday of last week, April 4, 2001. He was born in Delaware, Oklahoma, on April 25, 1914, to Carl Glee Smith and Eliza Jane Gilbert Smith.
He married Ruthie Smith, August 18, 1936 in Gran Quivira. Together they were pioneers in evangelistic work in many churches in Texas and New Mexico. Rev. Smith later pastored in Duran and Santa Rosa. They also served as missionaries for "Youth With A Mission" in the 1970's.
In Alamogordo, he worked for the construction company that built the platform on which the first atomic bomb was detonated.
He was a member of First Family Church of Albuquerque, having previously been on staff as Pastor to the Seniors.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruthie M. Smith, son David J. Smith, daughters, Victoria Blatherwick and Estelle Morgan.
Burial was in the Claunch Cemetery, Claunch, New Mexico.
