Nathan was the son of Nathan Curry Sr. and unknown mother. He was a farmer on the Yadkin River in Wilkes County, NC before moving circa 1800 to the Dials Community of Laurens County, SC near present day Gray Court. Nathan and his first wife, Fanny were married circa 1806. Fanny was the daughter of John Robertson and Mary Couch Robertson and the sister of Rev. Tolliver Robertson (1800-1878), a prominent Baptist preacher. Nathan was a farmer and owned a saddle shop. They had eleven children:
