WESTBROOK -- Donald 'Happy' Afthim Sr., 83, of Westbrook, passed away on Nov. 20, 2014, at Springbrook Nursing Home after battling dementia.
He was born in Westbrook in 1931, the son of William and Margaret Afthim. He was raised in Westbrook and attended schools here. Donald worked at the S.D Warren Paper Co. for 38 years. He enjoyed driving and people watching and spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Aline Ladderbush Afthim from Biddeford; a sister, Gloria Afthim, and a brother, Rudy Afthim. He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen of Westbrook, a son, Donald of Westbrook; his sisters, Marie Joyce of Eliot, Lorraine Afthim, Jean McKenney, Joan Jackson, all of Westbrook, Elaine LaBrie of Bangor, and Connie Dwyer of Sutton, Mass., brothers, William Afthim of Bedford, Mass., Philip Afthim of Westbrook, Arthur Afthim of Las Vegas, and Michael Afthim of South Portland; and many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank all the people at Springbrook for their love and compassion in caring for our Dad.
Visiting hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. Interment will be at a later date in St. Hyacinth Cemetery. On line condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
