THOMAS ROBERT RANKIN
Thomas "Bob" Rankin, 73, of South Franklin Township, Washington County, Pa., died Monday, November 27, 2000 in the Washington Hospital after a five month illness.
Mr. Rankin was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Republic, Fayette County, Pa., a son of Harry and Henrietta Ringer Rankin.
He served in the Navy during World War II, and later served with the U.S.ARMY, in peacetime. He was a member of the Houston American Legion Post 902, and a lifetime member of the Carmichaels VFW Post 3419.
Mr. Rankin served Washington County over the years as a Deputy Constable, Deputy Sheriff, and County Detective. He formerly worked as a security guard for Glosser Brothers and as truck driver for Gacon Construction. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Myra Merchant Barnhouse; a son, Patrick Barnhouse of Raleigh, N.C.; two daughters, Teri Barnhouse Worthington of Dayton, N.C., and Theresa Cooper of Washington; four brothers, Harry Rankin Jr., of Casterville, Texas, and Donald, Ronald, and James Rankin, all of Uniontown; seven sisters, Irene Crupe and Ann Phillips of Washington, Jane Williams of Claysville, Gladys Bush of Perryopolis, and Geraldine Fisher, Dottie Campbell, and Freda Ritz, all of Fairchance; two granddaughters, Danielle Barnhouse and Stephanie Barnhouse; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the HUMMEL & BARNHILL MEMORIAL CHAPEL INC., 585 Fayette St., Washington, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday at 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. David R. Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Prosperity Cemetery.
