Marvin Roe "Buck" Adams died on Friday, June 13, 2003, in a local nursing home.

Born in Roane County, Tenn., in 1910, he lived most of his life in Chattanooga. An Army veteran of the Second World War, he served his country in the North African and Italian campaigns.

He was an outstanding amateur and semi-professional athlete and a member of the Chattanooga Old Timers Sports Hall of Fame.

Prior to his retirement, he was owner and operator of Bryant’s Cafe on Glass Street in East Chattanooga.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Edwards Adams Bryant; and his father, Augustus Adams; his wife, Ozella Chaney Adams; four sisters, Ada Adams Cunningham, Eva Marie Adams Alford, Annie Adams Beller and Willie Adams Ball and his brother, James Frederick Adams.

Survivors include two sons, two daughters, five grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from noon until the hour of service on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Hospital, St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Shriner’s Hospitals or a favorite charity.
