Dr. John Edwin Drew, age 84 of Macclesfield, NC died Friday, October 31, 2014 at Pitt Hospital in Greenville, NC.
Visitation was held at Carlisle Funeral Home on Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 7:00-9:00 PM. Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 2, 2014, 3:00 PM at Eagles Baptist Church. Burial followed in Macclesfield Cemetery.
Ed graduated from Wingate University in 1952 and Bowen Gray Medical School in 1960. In 1961 he started his practice in family medicine in Macclesfield and retiring in 1992. He honorably served our country in the US Army in Korea during the Korean War. In addition to his service in the Armed Forces, Dr. Drew served on the Board of Directors of Wingate University and the Southern Bank & Trust, and he was active in multiple community organizations, including service as a deacon at Eagles Baptist Church, the Lions Club and the American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial contributions could be given to Eagles Baptist Church: 184 NC Hwy 124, Macclesfield, NC 27852; or to Wingate University: c/o Lee Ragsdale, P.O. Box 159, Wingate, NC 28174, Designated to Dr. Edwin and Mildred L. Drew Endowed Scholarship.
