Mr. Robert Bill Abernathy, age 84, of Foster RD, Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, October 27, 2014 at North East Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA following an extended illness. He was born September 27, 1930 in McCaysville, GA to the late John and Zora (Bruce) Abernathy. Mr. Abernathy was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He had been a Real Estate Broker for many years.
Mr. Abernathy was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Grace Vickery and a grandson, Tommy Abernathy.
He was a member and had served as a Deacon of Philadelphia Baptist Church for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Pat Abernathy of Blairsville, GA, children, Phillip and Kathy Abernathy of Blairsville, GA, Gayle and Gary Jordan of Chattanooga, TN, Randy and Susan Abernathy of Gainesville, GA and Janna Abernathy of Gainesville, GA, sister, Dorothy Byers of Blairsville, GA, brother, Paul and Mary Frances Abernathy of Greensboro, GA, grandchildren, Mary and Trenniss Elliott, Laura and David Pirkle, Evan Abernathy, Brent Abernathy, Ian and Jessica Jordan, Chelsea Diaz and Austin Jordan, great grandchildren, Colby, Cameron, Aden, Ryker, Lelan, Joe, Liam and Ben.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chad Underwood and Rev. Larry Shope officiating. Music will be by Philadelphia and New Union Baptist Church Choirs. Pallbearers will be Evan Abernathy, Brent Abernathy, Trenniss Elliott, Austin Jordan, David Pirkle, David Abernathy, Chris Ledbetter and Robert Byers. Interment will follow in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers make memorial contributions to Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 until 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
