Helen Louise Caroline Porter was a daughter of Isaac Sylvester Porter and his wife Emeline Higby (Dennis) Porter of Porter Hollow. She was the granddaughter of Benjamin Porter (1763-1828) who is buried in Routt-Wells Cemetery, and his wife Elizabeth (Casey) Porter who is buried in Texas. They were pioneers, having settled in Lincoln County in 1809.

Helen married Samuel Kelton Pickett (1848-1913) on 27 Jan 1889. Samuel was a brother to Thomas Richard Pickett, the husband of Helen's sister Eliza. Helen and Samuel were the parents of Emerline Higby Kelton Pickett, usually called "Higby", and Jennie Morgan Pickett.

Helen's death certificate (State of Tennessee, certificate no. 5549) states that she was buried in Gum Springs Cemetery on 14 Feb 1929, the day following her death. She has no marker.
