Ira Joe Marcus, age 61, of the Meadow Branch Community near Robbinsville, NC, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at his residence. A native of Graham County, he was the son of the late Ira Lee and Bertha Farley Marcus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Marcus. Joe was a Veteran of the US Army, having served his country proudly during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Korea. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carolyn Deering Marcus; his sons, Clint Marcus of Robbinsville, NC, Shane Marcus of Washington, DC, and Austin Marcus of Greenville, SC; his brother, Roy Marcus of Robbinsville, NC; and his sisters, Carol Odom and Debbie Jones, both of Robbinsville, NC. He has 3 grandchildren, Alexous Marcus, Ira Joe Marcus, Jr., and Emma Marcus. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 29, 2011 at Meadow Branch Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Reverends Sam Hayes and Gary Jones will officiate. Burial will follow at Calderwood Cemetery where a Flag Presentation will be conducted by Eller Rogers American Legion Post 192 and Carringer Webster VFW Post 8635. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Meadow Branch Baptist Church, where the body will remain to await the service.
