Born on April 28, 1935, in Wells County, to Samuel M. and Mary E. (Reinhard) Baumgartner, she married Jay Kipfer in Bluffton, on December 2, 1956; he survives.
Graduating from Lancaster Central High School in 1953, Dot later graduated from International Business College in Fort Wayne. For the majority of her life she was a homemaker and later worked for Frankliln Electric in Bluffton, retiring after 13 years of service. She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church.
Dorothy enjoyed playing the harp. She was an excellent cook, baker, seamstress, and gardener.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Gloria (Franchon) Smithson of Westport, CT, and Sheryl Mayne of Fort Wayne; one son, Kurt (Ingrid) Kipfer of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Kellen Smithson, Kait Smithson, Chris Mayne, Heather (Trent) Skaggs, and Rori Kipfer; along with three great-grandchildren, Isabella Stout, Croy Stout, and Hudson Skaggs.
Aside from her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred S. Baumgartner, a brother, Thomas W. Baumgartner, and a son-in-law, Mike Mayne.
Visitation will be Friday, October 24, 2014, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. Services will be held Saturday, October 25, at the Bluffton North Apostolic Christian Church, at 10:00 A.M., with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church. Ron Kipfer and Nile Bucher will be officiating the service. Burial will be at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund in care of Christian Care Retirement Community.
