Sgt. Force had been in the armed services almost three years, having entered the Army Air Corps March 6, 1942. He took basic training at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., and was later graduated from the Lowry Field Photo School in Colorado, as an aerial photographer. He served as chief instructor at photo schools at the Will Rogers Field, Oklahoma City, and at the Army Air Field, Coffeyville, Kan. On Jan 1, 1945, he was ordered to the Replacement Depot, Greensboro, N. C., and from there was sent to Porto Rico for Photo Mission and Laboratory work.
William David Force was born in West Lafayette, May 17, 1920, the son of William R. and Nora (Detrick) Force. He attended the St. Boniface school and Jefferson high school. In 1937 he moved with his parents to Mulberry, where he became a popular member of the younger set and was known especially for his hobby- photography. He was married to Miss Genevieve Garrison, Sept. 13, 1941, and for a short time before he entered service the couple lived in Lafayette. During his term of service in Oklahoma and Kansas his wife took up her residence near him.
The news of his death, when it became generally known Tuesday morning, shocked and saddened the entire town.

The body of Staff Sergeant William D. Force arrived at the Big Four station in Lafayette at 10:46 a. m. Tuesday and was taken immediately to the St. Boniface cemetery for brief funeral services and interment. The Lafayette American Legion post assigned an honor guard to meet the train and escort the funeral party to the cemetery. M. E. Kleinsmith was in charge.
