Enlisted, June 23, 1893, in Troop A Cavalry ( Squadron A ), New York City. He saw field service with Troop A Cavalry during the Brooklyn Trolley Strike, January 1895 and Headquarters Troop, Squadron A, NYNG, during the Croton Dam Strike, August 1900. When Troop A Cavalry was reorganized into Squadron A he was assigned to Troop 1, Squadron A.

Commissioned, 2nd lieutenant, Cavalry, April 24, 1895, and assigned as inspector of rifle practice, Squadron A. Promoted 1st Lieutenant then Captain, January 24, 1912, Ordinance Department, Squadron A. He is assigned to the reserve list May 14, 1914.

World War 1, Major, Medical Corp ( chief surgeon ), New York Guard. Promoted Lieutenant Colonel, November 1, 1918 and placed on the retired list December 22, 1923.

He was the Captain of the US Olympic Pistol Team, 1908, 1912, 1920 and 1924.
