Ragan J. “Ray” Backstrom, 66, of Arizona City died in Casa Grande, Oct. 11, 2014.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. 21 October 2014, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road in Phoenix.

Mr. Backstrom was born to Harold and Phyla Backstrom in Bellingham, Washington, on Oct. 30, 1947. He was a 1965 graduate of Coolidge High School and served in the U.S. Army in Germany in the late 1960s. While in Germany, he and his wife, Karen, toured extensively in Europe.

After his service he went into the computer sciences field. He retired in 2011 as county manager in Otero County, New Mexico. He was an avid motorcycle fan, accomplished musician, RVer and private pilot.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years; two sons, Ray Jr. of Shawnee, Kansas, and Corey of Red Rock; two brothers, Craig Backstrom of Coolidge and Ted Knutson of Snohomish, Washington; one sister, Floris Dean of Snohomish; five grandchildren and a large extended family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Riders.
