Mr. Jenkins worked as a master finisher for over fifty years in the furniture industry at Akzo Nobel as well as Kent Coffey Manufacturing, Lilly Company, and Broyhill Furniture Industries. He was also a member of Miller Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Jenkins served in the United States Navy during World War II. He served aboard the USS Dyess, USS Boston, and USS Sargent Bay.
Mr. Jenkins is survived by a brother, John Jenkins; four sons, William R. Jenkins and his wife Meredith of Lenoir, Jack L. Jenkins and wife Pam of Taylorsville, Michael W. Jenkins and wife Mary Zealy of Columbia, South Carolina, and Tony A. Jenkins and wife Kim of Granite Falls; sisters, Lilly Jenkins of Lenoir, Shirley "Jean" Lewis of Marion, and Janet Jarvis of Hudson; grandchildren, Tony A. Jenkins II, Crystal Jenkins, William Ray Jenkins Jr., Carol Lynn Mecimore, Amy Lee Jenkins, Jennifer Nicole Garrett, Michael W. Jenkins Jr.. Nichole Sigmon, Megan A. Childress,15 great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild.
Funeral services for Mr. Jenkins will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Pendry's Funeral Home in the chapel with Pastor Mack Jarvis III officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 two hours prior to the service, from 1:00-2:00pm at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home.
