Edna Suzanne (Suzy) Simpson Baker, 79, died Wednesday, October 8th, unexpectedly from a heart attack. A graduate of Miss Hutchison's School, Suzy was active in many organizations including being president of Les Passees, a member of Les Passees Fine Arts Club, Woman's Exchange of Memphis, Ikebana, Town and Country Garden Club, and a Duchess of Memphi. A lifetime member of Idlewild Presbyterian Church, she and her mother arranged flowers for the services. She was trained as a concert pianist, and enjoyed traveling, bridge, Mah Jong and was an avid reader. Former members of Chickasaw Country Club, Suzy and Malcolm enjoyed golfing. Survived by son, Franklin Polk Baker (Lisa Moody), grandson James Simpson Baker, granddaughter Hannah Baker, brother-in-law Bill (Louise) Baker, and sister-in-law Nancy Baker, she was predeceased by husband Malcolm H. Baker, Jr., sons Malcolm H. Baker III and James Simpson Baker, parents Edna and Dr. James E. Simpson, and brother, Dr. E. F. Simpson. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday, October 12th at Canale Funeral Directors. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 13th at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Idlewild Presbyterian Church, 1750 Union Avenue, Memphis 38104, or the charity of the donor's choice.
