Mrs. Mary Norman Mackey Slade CREDLE, 85, of Scranton, died Saturday, June 30, 2001 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Pilgrim Church of Christ Disciples of Christ in Scranton with Elder Barry James officiating. Burial will follow at the Mackey family cemetery in Scranton. Mrs. Credle was born in Hyde County on Sept. 27, 1915. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Mackey and Laura Lee Barber Mackey. She attended the public schools of Hyde County. She was married to Henry Slade who preceded her in death. She later married Harvey Credle who also preceded her in death. She was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Church of Christ Disciples of Christ in Scranton. Survivors include five sons: Paul Slade of Scranton and Tom Credle, Brice Credle, Neal Credle and Raymond Credle, all of Belhaven; 10 daughters: Mary E. Credle of Waldorf, Md., Vera Washington, Joyce Russell and Esther Clark, all of Scranton, Sandra Coval and Brenda Cooper, both of New Brunswick, N.J., Hilda Gregory of Somerset, N.J., and Lydia Freeman, Alice Mae Moore and Mary Butcher, all of Belhaven; 74 grandchildren, 107 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. The body will be place in the church one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are by Randolph Funeral Home in Washington, N.C. (Washington Daily News - July 2001)
