I want to acknowledge the information provided by the Walter H. Pack Family. As I shared with the original creator of this memorial, some of it is incorrect based on the records I found. I have corrected the details below to the best of my ability. Unfortunately, there are few records to support many of the details, but they represent the preponderance of information. I welcome the input of others.

The Last Will and Testament of Mariman Settle

In the name of God, Amen, I Mariman Settle, of the county of Culpeper being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God calling unto mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die, do make and order this my last will and testament, that is to say principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the direction of my executors nothing doubting but at the general discretion I shall never the sorrow affirm, by the almighty power of God and as trusting such worldly estate when with it has pleased God to help me in this life, I give and display after same in the following manner and form, first I give and bequeath to Mary Settle, my beloved wife all the property I possess at this time both in doors and out doors so long as she lives a widow. Also Given to my beloved daughter, Diana Settle, a Negro woman named Amako, also a bed and furniture and if she would die without heirs to be equally divided among the rest of my children. Also I give and bequeath to my daughter, Franky Settle, a Negro girl named Sal, also a bed and furniture and if she should die without heirs to be equally divided among the rest of my children. Also I give and bequeath to my daughter Aggy Settle, a Negro girl named Nutty, a bed and furniture and if she should die without heirs to be equally divided among the rest of my children. Also I give unto Eli Settle, one Negro girl named Fanny, but if he should die without heirs to be equally divided among the rest of my children. Also I give unto Gaden Settle, one Negro boy named Tom, but if he should die without heirs to be equally divided among the rest of my children. Also I give unto Ephram Settle, one Negro boy named Wil,l but if he should die without heirs to be equally divided among the rest of my children. If any of the above Negroes should die before a division, the owner shall have an equal share after the remainder parts of my property. The balance of my estate after the decease of my wife, I give as follows, To Elijah, Enoch, Abner, Abraham, Uriah, Obediah and Luke to be equally dived and I do herby name the property to be divided which is two Negroes name Edmond and John, some horses, sheep, hogs, cattle and some household furniture. This is my last formal testament with and by me. In any wise before named and bequeathed notifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whole of, I have here unto set my hand and seal this 5th day of November in the year of our Lord, one thousand, eight hundred and fourteen. Mariman Settle
