Inscription

In the chauncell of this church lyeth buried the body of Richard Jefferay, of South Malling, Esq., sole brother to Sir John Jefferay, Lo: chiefe baron. He married Margerie, daughter of Jo: Humphry, of Warwick, Esq., and widowe of Richard Keyme, by whome he had issue Fra: his only sonne, married to Eliz: Mayney, one of the daught. and coheires of Walter Mayney, of Kent, Esq., and 2 daughters, Margaret, married to Edward Mascall, of Plompton, Gent: and Alice, married to John Gardiner, of Ratcliffe, neere London, Gent: He dyed the 13. of Decemb: in ye yeare 1600, and the 72 of his age.
