A member of Cropwell Baptist Church, Roy retired from Hayes Aircraft after 40 years of service. He was a US Marine veteran, and received two Purple Hearts and the Presidential Unit Citation. He fought in the Korean War.

Roy Bannister passed away at 8pm, September 22, 2014 at St Vincent's East Hospital with his family by his side.

He spent the last 17 years of his life doing the things he enjoyed the most, farming, raising and selling cattle, bushhogging, gardening and visiting his friends at the Manning Coffee Shop.

He was the son of the late Gordon and Virginia Bannister. He was also predeceased by two brothers, his twin brother Troy Bannister and Jack Stewart, and sisters Nora and Violet Bannister. When his sister Nora could no longer live alone, he had her come live out her last years at his home.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Martha Allred Meeks Bannister; and sons Steven and Alan Bannister of Jefferson, Georgia, step-sons Don Meeks and Jeff Meeks; a number of grandchildren and step-grandchildren.


The funeral was held Thursday, September 25..at 2pm at Usrey Funeral Home with his nephews, Rev. Don Maddox and Rev. Ken Maddox officiating. Burial in St. Clair Memorial Garden with military honors.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or
Cropwell Baptist Church.
