Robert Atkins, three year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Atkins, of Prairie du Chien, drowned in a gravel pit near the Prairie Concrete Products Company early Monday morning.
The boy was outside playing and was missed by his mother about 8:00 a.m. Monday.
While she was looking around for Robert, the boy's dog was seen coming from the direction of the gravel pit, about one block from the Aktin's home. The dog was wet and searchers then realized the boy may have been in the pit. The boy's body was recovered about 10:00 a.m. in about 10 feet of water.
Robert is survived by his parents; a sister, Judy Atkins; two brothers, Joe and Mike Atkins and his grandmothers, Viola Berger and Sophia Atkins.
