Elizabeth was a child of Cecilia (Celia) and Joab Waters Jr., according to Probate Records filed in Washington County, Missouri on August 7, 1833. Other children listed as heirs were Edward, Dorsey, Henry and Joab the third. Little is known about Henry and Joab Waters the third. Edward married Sinah Romine, raised a large family and was laid to rest in Parker County, Texas. Edward's find a grave memorial is # 47617941. Dorsey married Sinah Romine's sister Sarah Ellen Romine and settled in Howell County, Missouri. Dorsey Dolin Waters find a grave memorial is # 147418202 in Howell County, Missouri. After Dorsey Dolin died, Ellen Waters moved to Parker County, Texas to be close to her sister. She drew a Confederate pension from Dorsey Dolin Waters Civil War service. Ellen Waters is buried in Parker County, Texas.

Elizabeth appears to be a granddaughter of Joab Waters who was the richest man in Perry County, Missouri in 1830 according to the census. Cecelia, Elizabeth's mother, appears to have been born in Missouri about 1800 suggesting that she might have some Native American heritage. One of Elizabeth's descendants has recently had an ancestry DNA match which shows 71% Great Britain and 19% Irish ethnicity. This could rule out any Native American heritage.

John Hutchins, a friend of Joab Waters Senior was appointed administrator of the Cecelia and Joab Waters's Jr. estate. One of the debts due the estate was school lessons for Elizabeth. Perhaps Elizabeth was the source for her son, James Erwin's extensive knowledge and superb penmanship.

Elizabeth Waters married Thomas Ervin (sic) in Washington County, Missouri on November 10, 1846. I haven't found them on the 1850 census, but they are in Saline County, Missouri about 1853 where Thomas's father Robert Erwin was living. Thomas Kenedy and Elizabeth Erwin were enumerated in Saline County, Missouri under the name of Canada Erwin in 1860. Robert Erwin died in 1861 and I feel that the Thomas Kenedy Erwin family left Saline County, shortly, for Jefferson County, Missouri where they had bought land from Edward Waters, Elizabeth's brother. They lived in Jefferson and Franklin Counties, Missouri during the Civil War. The 1870 census found them living in Franklin County. They lost their Franklin County land in 1872 and migrated to near Cassville in Barry County, Missouri where they rented land until about 1876 when they moved to what was to become Hill Top, Arkansas in Boone County. They successfully homesteaded 160 acres and lived the rest of their lives there. Elizabeth died in 1897 and Thomas Kenedy Erwin passed less than two weeks later.
