Anna Julia was the daughter of John and Esther Engelbertson Nayes, the step-daughter of Richard Arneson. Both fathers were born in Norway. John passed away when Anna was 2 so she knew only Richard. She had 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

She married Thomas Kane on Dec 29, 1913, in Menomonie.
