John and his wife Dessie were the parents of Petoskey’s Mayor Emery Nyman and Arthur “The Coal Man.” John was an officer and served on the board of directors of the Portland Cement Company––a personal friend of John Galster, the founder. He and his wife were witnesses for Otto and Hilda Johnson when they married in Petoskey in 1909. Note: Otto was the younger brother of Dessie Johnson Nyman. Otto and Hilda, before they moved to their home on Charlevoix Avenue, both lived in Resort Township and worked for John at the cement company.
Note: The Nyman’s Classic Craftsman Bungalow is on the National Resister of Historic Homes:
"Nyman, John, House (added 1986 - - #86002039)
915 Emmet St. , Petoskey”."
