BIOGRAPHY

Principal Mildred Stone was not only a highly regarded administrator of the Alanson Public Schools, she taught there as well. She also taught elementary school in Petoskey and Bay Shore in the Petoskey School District.

She earned her teaching certificate at DePauw University in Green Castle, Indiana, her BA at Central Michgan Universtiy, and then continued her education at American University in Maryland.

Mrs. Stone was a member the American Association of University Women, Bay View Choir, and the United Methodist Church in Petoskey, where she ran the nursery.

For many years, she and her family were residents of Rosedale––a resort community on the edge of Bay View, Michigan. In her later years she was a member of the Ward Presbyterian Church in Livonia, where she had moved to live with her son, Dr. D. Stone.

OBITUARY EXCERPTS

Her husband QuInton J. Stone preceeded her death in 1979. She was survived by her daughter, Marilyn, and two sons, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one sister. Services were held at the Stone Funeral Home, in Petoskey. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Petoskey. The Rev. Charles Fulmer of the United Methodist Church officiated at the service where her many friends and relatives mourned her passing.
