Passed away February 14, 2001 in Novato. Mother of Alfred McElroy of Auburn, Linda L. Gaede of Half Moon Bay, Kathi Jones of Rancho Murieta, Diana Caesar of Newark , Patty Heyden of Novato and Michael McElroy of Novato. Sister of Linda Horton of Port Angeles, WA, Barbara Eaton of St. Louis, MO and Billy Giamboni. Grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, with 2 more "on the way".

Ella was a native Californian and a direct descendant of Buffalo Bill Cody on her maternal grandmother's side. Born in Winters and raised in Petaluma. She lived in Santa Venetia and Alaska (1948 to 1952) prior to her 49 years in Novato. She worked as a Librarian Desk Supervisor for the Civic Center and Novato branches for 25 years. An avid artist, excelling in a variety of mediums, painting (loving acrylic and water colors), stained glass, ceramics and making Christmas ornaments, all of which she either used to help support her family or generously gave as gifts. It was this love of art that brought her to found the Novato Art Guild of which she served as President for several terms. Ella was always active in her family's life. She started the PTA at Grant Avenue School in Novato and was active in Church, the Scouts, Brownies, 4-H Club and all school activities. She also enjoyed square dancing. At her request, private family services were held at Point Reyes.
