Wilbur F.’Bill’ Zipp, long­ time Petoskey resident and former co-owner of Zipp Lumber Company, passed away at Bay Bluffs of Harbor Springs. Bill was born in Petoskey to Wilbur and Naomi Mary (Car­rier) Zipp. He grew up in Petoskey and was a gradu­ate of Petoskey High School, class of 1940. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II as first lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps. He went on to attend the Uni­versity of Michigan and in 1948 graduated with a degree in engineering. On April 14, 1951, he married Patricia Ann Dailey in New Jersey. Together they raised four children. Patricia preceded Bill In death on July 21, 1981. On March 11, 1995, he marrted Elizabeth Reid Bush. Following college, Bill worked In the engineering field for a number of years primarily in southern Michi­gan. In 1956,he moved back to Petoskey to work with his father in the family business. In 1969,following the death of his father, Wilbur Sr., Bill became co-owner of Zlpp Lumber. He was proud to be an active member of Petoskey’s business community. During this time he served his community on the Emmet County Board of Supervisors throughout the late 1950s and 1960s and was instrumental with at least two significant county projects: the building of the Clty-County Building and the Emmet County Medical Care Facility (Bay Bluffs). He also served as a former president of the Petoskey Chamber of Com­merce and was a member of the Kiwanis Club. Mr. Zipp was survived by his wife, his children; two step­ children, ten grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Bill’s sister, Jackie Kenyon, preceded him In death. His life was remembered and celebrated with family and friends on Thursday, Sept. 4, at Stone Funeral Home. Services were led by the Reverend David Behling.
