ELLA M. McELROY
Ella M. McElroy, a longtime resident of Novato, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001.
Ella was a native Californian and a direct descendant of Buffalo Bill Cody on her maternal grandmother’s side. She was born in Winters, CA and raised in Petaluma. She lived in Santa Venetia and Alaska, 1948 to 1952, prior to her 49 years in Novato.
A Librarian Desk Supervisor for the Civic Center and Novato libraries for 25 years, she was also an avid artist, excelling in a variety of mediums. She loved painting with acrylic and water colors, stained glass, ceramics and crafting Christmas ornaments, all of which she used to help support her family or generously gave as gifts. Her love of art brought her to found the Novato Art Guild, where she served as president for several terms. She formed the PTA at Grant Avenue School in Novato and was active in her church, the Scouts, the Brownies, the 4-H Club and school activities. She also enjoyed square dancing.
She was the devoted mother of Alfred McElroy of Auburn, Linda L. Gaede of Half Moon Bay, Kathie Jones of Rancho Murieta, Diana Caesar of Newark, Patty Heyden of Novato and Michael McElroy of Novato. She was the caring sister of Linda Horton of Port Angeles, WA, Barbara Eaton of St. Louis, MO and Billy Giamboni. She was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother to 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two more “on the way.”
Private services were held at Point Reyes.
