Mrs. Terry Jane Franks Duffey Patat, age 87 of Dalton, Ga, departed this life, Monday August 17, 2015 in Dalton, Georgia.

Mrs. Patat was born September 7, 1927 in Lavonia, Georgia, a daughter of the late Moody J. and Minnie O. Smith Franks.

She attended West Georgia College in Carrollton, Georgia for two years, receiving her teaching certificate where she met her first husband Harl Clifford Duffey, Jr. She taught school for a year before they started having a family. She had five children over the next 12 years. She would tell you herself she didn't start driving before she was 21. She was a great seamstress and enjoyed gardening and watching golf. At family gatherings, she was known for her delicious sweet potato souffle'. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dalton.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Tom Patat, grandson, Joseph Kristopher Andrews, sibliing, Jones Franks, Bud Franks, sisters, Bremer Franks Jolly, Buris Franks Crowell, Rosellen Franks Ray, Eva Nell Franks Moon; and father of her children Harl Clifford Duffey, Jr.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Harl Clifford Mike Duffey III of Rome, GA, James Thomas and Connie Duffey of Villa Rica, GA, Christopher Edward Duffey of Carrollton, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Jack Dempsey of Kennesaw, GA, Kay and Chester Chaffin of Dalton, GA; ten grandchildren: Cliff, Ken, Spencer, Jamie, Emery, MacKenzie, Will, Flora and Arlo Duffey and Kyle Chaffin; four great grandchildren: Joseph Andrews, Kate and Mary Duffey, and Hannah Chaffin; and her little dog Romeo.

From the family, a heartfelt thank you to her loving daughters, Kay and Vickie for caring for her during her declining years.

A private memorial service for the family of Terry Franks Duffey Patat was held Monday, August 24, 2015 at the First Methodist Church of Dalton at 3pm. The family gathered at the home of Ches and Kay Chaffin of Dalton for a time of fellowship. Following a meal together, the family joined friends at the church and her ashes were inurned in the columbarium of the church. A special thank you to Ches and Kay Chaffin for inviting the family into your home and for all you do and have done for the family.
